With the summer approaching golf lovers throughout the UAE will be packing up the clubs and heading off on their international travels in search of fairways offering a more pleasant temperature. In the small island of Mauritius they might just find their golfing paradise.
Accessible via a mere six-and-a-half-hour flight from Dubai – with Emirates and Air Mauritius both operating two flights daily – the former Dutch, French and British colony located in the southwest Indian Ocean is a year-round destination. But from June to September the humidity drops and the warm but pleasant climate makes for ideal golfing weather while there are bargains to be had at many of the hotels and resorts in what is considered the ‘winter’ period.
For an island that is only 790 square miles in size there are no fewer than 12 courses to choose from and a host of exceptional ‘stay and play’ packages on offer, many of which allow visitors reduced green fees on other championship tracks on the island.
Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels has in its extensive portfolio an exquisite collection of four dedicated golf resorts which offer a unique vacation experience for golfers and non-golfers alike.
Tucked between UNESCO World Heritage Site Brabant Mountain and the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon on the Le Morne Peninsula to the southeast of the island, Paradis offers a remarkable 18-hole Par 72 golf course stretching along 5,924 metres within the resort’s grounds which offers up spectacular scenery and enjoyable play in equal measures. Showcasing immaculate greens and fairways running alongside the Indian Ocean Paradis is a good challenge for players of all abilities. Swirling mountain winds make the front nine a decent test while accuracy is at a premium when tackling the must to tackle the tricky back nine. The club also features its own Academy so you can hone your skills in between rounds.
The 5 star resort features 13 comfortable and spacious villas, a luxurious Spa, world class restaurants, a Kids Club plus there’s a whole host of other land and water sports available.
Paradis also shares its golf course with another 5-star Beachcomber resort, Dinarobin which offers villa and suite only accommodation with guests staying in the Golf Suites given a complimentary daily green fee and golf cart. There’s also an internationally recognised Kite Surf School for watersport lovers.
On the north of the island is Mont Choisy Le Golf, a 6,245 metres, par 72 championship course crafted by the renowned South African golf architect, Peter Matkovich, and like Paradis, equally enjoyable for high and low handicappers. Guests at the Trou aux Biches and Canonnier share use of the Mont Choisy Le Golf Course. Set amidst tropical gardens, the Villas and Suites of the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber transport guests to a world dedicated to tropical elegance. Like Dinarobin, the accommodation includes Golf Suites where guest enjoy a daily complimentary green fee and golf cart as well a shuttle service to and from the course. Reopening in September 2017 following refurbishment work, the Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is situated within a lush 17-acre estate and features well-appointed accommodation, a choice of three restaurants, a wide range of water and land activities in addition to privileged access to Mont Choisy Le Golf as well as an attractive ‘all inclusive’ option.
