Huawei’s first ever smart sports watch, Huawei Watch Fit, is staking its claim as one of the best wearables on the market after it was released earlier this month in the UAE.
As soon as I unboxed the Watch Fit I could tell this was a serious piece of kit that was not only aimed at those looking to kickstart an active lifestyle but also those who are aiming to maintain one.
I fall in the former section as a newbie to the wearable market and having not trained in a while I was eager to get the Watch Fit on and kickstart an active lifestyle that was long overdue!
The Watch Fit could not have been easier to begin that journey with its simple pairing process to my phone straight from the box simply by downloading the partner app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.
After I’m connected, I put the watch on and I’m pleasantly surprised with how comfortable the band is which makes it perfect for all day wear. Another bonus is the fact that it’s waterproof enabling you to track your fitness while swimming. The tall AMOLED screen is bright with an accessible and easy to use interface and built-in GPS means you can leave your phone behind for short workouts.
Overall I’m really impressed with my first impressions of the watch with it’s great screen, comfortable feel and easy to use interface.
Two weeks later
Having now used the Watch Fit for two weeks I now consider myself a fitness freak after tracking all my fitness activities and doing the workouts that are available directly from the watch!
As a newbie to getting fit I was always wary that I wouldn’t know where to start and would need some guidance on the way and the Watch Fit certainly delivers on this front, with intelligent features specifically designed to help users work out anytime, anywhere.
My very own animated personal trainer covers 12 workout courses including 44 posture demonstrations. It has everything from bite-sized strength training to abdominal workouts and other exercises that I can do in the comfort of my living room after a long day at the office. The ‘stand up reminders’ also come in handy when I’ve been sitting at my desk too long with a prompt telling me to move if I sit for longer than three minutes! Who knew I always sat for too long!
In addition to this the Watch Fit can also track heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring. I’ve always found it difficult to get a good sleep so was intrigued to find out how HUAWEI TruSleep™ 2.0 worked with real-time heart rate monitoring, sleep respiration quality and big data analysis. The Watch Fit identified restlessness within my sleep pattern and provided some personalised suggestions on how to get a better night’s sleep which to my surprise actually worked really well. I’ve been sleeping like a baby ever since!
Another bonus of the Watch Fit is the fact I’ve only had to charge the watch once in the last 14 days and that’s thanks to the long lasting battery life. On a single charge, the Watch Fit can last up to 10 days long. I’m also told that one five-minute charge can sustain the smartwatch for an entire day of typical use, while just half an hour will charge the battery to 70%.
As a newcomer to the wearable market I was highly impressed with the ease of use straight from the box and the wide range of of features aimed from those beginning their fitness journey to the seasoned veterans. At just 399AED it’s one of the most affordable wearables on the market and one of the best looking.
