Paradise found on Zanzibar Island

One word describes Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa…WOW! Situated directly on the pristine beachfront of Paje, this exclusive boutique resort delivers tranquillity and a real ‘back to nature’ vibe alongside 5-star service and amenities.

The name of the resort is extremely accurate. White sand and luxury are two of the main features which jump out at you on arrival. Zanzibar is a true beach lover’s paradise and you really are spoilt for choice as far as picture-postcard stretches of coastline and the pocket of seafront land that White Sand is situated on is up there with the best on the island.

There’s an exclusive and intimate feel to the resort owing to the fact that it comprises only 11 unique villas which were designed by renowned architect Neil Rocher.

Five 1-bedroom villas, five 2-bedroom villas and one 5-bedroom villa are spread over 4 hectares of tropical garden providing complete privacy amongst natural surroundings. Our villa was set back from the beach and sitting on the terrace next to the pool surrounded by lush greenery you could forget you were by the beach at all and instead think you were in a tropical jungle…until the soothing sound of the tide reminded you exactly where you were.

If you’re lucky during your stay at White Sand you might just get a special visit from some simian friends – we did…lots of them and it provided a good hour’s worth of entertainment watching them scampering over the roof of the villas and swinging in the trees in the garden.

The villas are spectacular. Each one has two units connected by an exotic garden with a terrace, private swimming-pool and outdoor bathtub. One unit is composed of the bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet while the other includes the kitchen, dining room and lounge. Check in is a breeze – completed in the villa itself while we had our own personal butler to call on if we needed him…alas we didn’t, were too busy relaxing or out enjoying the beach life.

Kitesurfing is a big thing in Zanzibar and with steady year-round winds, flat shallow waters protected by coral reef and paradise sandy beach, Paje is well-known as one of the top destinations for the sport in the world. The hotel owners also own the neighboring high-end Kitesurf club: Zanzibar Kite Paradise which is accessible yet unobtrusive to guests and offers high quality service and equipment, classes and support from beginners to advanced levels – as well as watersports equipment to rent.

Even if you don’t fancy trying it yourself, it’s quite a spectacle to witness the scores of kitesurfers doing their thing and many an hour can be whiled away sitting on the beach, drink in hand, watching the action.

We didn’t experience the spa, but it looked divine – nestled amongst the abundant gardens featuring two massage rooms, a steam room, sauna and tropical seating area where visitors relax by a soothing waterfall.

White Sand also actively invests in renewable energy and processes with 80% of all energy used in running the resort coming from renewable (solar and wind) energy. There’s a state of the art wind turbine and photovoltaic panels to utilize solar energy while all the fruit and veg for the restaurant is homegrown in a private plantation.

The food in this divine resort is to die for. As you would expect, freshly caught fish features prominently on the menu while there is a nice blend of local Zanzibar dishes and more international fare – everything we tried was delicious and like the rest of the Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa resort, left an extremely nice taste in the mouth.
