The Couch to 5k application is a nine-week running podcast that will help motivate you during this difficult period to get fit, rather than fat!
The programme is designed for beginners to gradually build up their running ability so they can eventually run 5km without stopping.
The pace of the 9-week running plan has been tried and tested by thousands of new runners and is achievable for those that don’t think they have the willpower to complete the targets.
You can, however, repeat any one of the weeks until you feel physically ready to move on to the next week.
Dubai resident Iona Adam started using the Couch to 5k app last week and has loved the experience so far. She says: “The app is great because it feels like you have a personal trainer in your ear spurring you on and helping you through the tough periods when you want to stop.
“This is especially the case in the current climate when it’s so hot outside and you have to run with a mask on. These are all obstructions that I would usually use as an excuse until I downloaded this app.”
The NHS app gives you a choice of coaches and helps you track your progress. As well as Laura, who features on the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts, you can also be coached by celebrities Jo Whiley, Sarah Millican, Sanjeev Kohli or Michael Johnson.
