The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens creates legacy with school visits

The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens has once again launched the Partner Schools Programme with over 4,000 students from 23 schools visited as part of the 2018 campaign – a record number of schools since the programme started six years ago.

Schools across the UAE were invited to participate in the programme to create a legacy from the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens. The specially designed programme motivates children to get involved in rugby, promote active lifestyles, encourage healthy living and learn about the various nations participating at this year’s Dubai Sevens, all of this is implemented through a range of academic and sporting activities at each school.

Once again, the ‘Adopt a Nation’ scheme is a key addition in the programme whereby the school can support any of the 28 international teams participating in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series, learn about the country and have the opportunity to watch some top rugby players in action during their pre-tournament training sessions in Dubai.

Donal Kilalea, Tournament Commercial and Operations Manager said: “Our partner schools programme has gained tremendous popularity over the years and it’s a great way to create awareness of the game at the grassroots level in a fun and engaging manner. We would like to thank World Rugby for their support with the ‘Adopt a Nation’ campaign and we are sure the children will be very excited to see some world-class rugby players close-up in action. We would also like to thank all participating schools that have taken part in this year’s programme.”
