The FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2018, the 15th edition of world club football’s showpiece tournament, is now less than a week away and it’s going to be a classic. With final preparations well under way, fans are set to welcome the undisputed No.1 player in world football when Luka Modric lands in Abu Dhabi with defending champions Real Madrid CF.
Madrid maestro Modric this week claimed the Ballon d’Or, the annual award for the best footballer in the world handed out by France Football, ending a decade of dominance between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Ballon d’Or victory caps a memorable 2018 for the diminutive Croatian star in which he secured a clean sweep of the three major individual honours in world football, adding his latest triumph to The Best FIFA Men’s Player award year and the adidas Golden Ball at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, having guided Croatia to the final.
The appearance of Modric at the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2018 following his ascension to the summit of world footballing superstardom is just the latest incentive for fans across the UAE and beyond to snap up tickets for the battle to crown the world’s best club side.
Host stadiums Zayed Sports City Stadium and Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium are prepped and ready to welcome the best club teams from around the world. The playing surfaces are perfect, the locker rooms are ready and the seating inside both venues will guarantee an unforgettable experience for all spectators.
Host cities Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are ready to greet the champion clubs, officials, players and fans from Kashima Antlers (AFC), Esperance de Tunis (CAF), CD Guadalajara (CONCACAF), Team Wellington (Oceania), Real Madrid (UEFA) who will join Al Ain FC in a seven-star line-up that will be completed when the winners of the Copa Libertadores final are confirmed between Club Atletico River Plate and Boca Juniors.
“We are well into the final stages of preparation for this exciting tournament which will bring the world together right here in the UAE. The stadiums are ready, the volunteers are ready, the host cities are ready. We are ready for kick-off,” said Salem Sulaimani, Director of Operations, FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2018 Local Organising Committee.
“It is now just a case of ensuring we have everything in place to give the teams, officials, players and fans a warm UAE welcome and ensure an unforgettable tournament experience for all.”
