Vienna’s renowned Spanish Riding School is set to enthrall Abu Dhabi horse-lovers with an exquisite, culture-filled, classical equitation at Emirates Palace on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th March.

The Spanish Riding School, where the art of classic dressage education has been cultivated for 465 years, is the only remaining institution where haute ecole (high school) riding and training methods are exclusively practiced, much as they were in the 18th century. Home of the Lipizzaner stallions, a unique European breed, referred to as ‘professors’ once they have completed their training, the Spanish Riding School is renowned globally for its breath-taking performances.

This year, and for the first time in history, the celebrated school will be performing in the Middle East to the delight of equine enthusiasts around the region. The much-admired traditional riding institution will showcase the magical interplay between their white baroque stallions and their trainers in an unforgettable classical performance set to captivate the Capital.

Filled with heritage and culture, the dressage performance promises to transform the grounds of Kempinski’s lavish Emirates Palace, located in the heart of Abu Dhabi, into a mesmerizing ring in which the performance will take place.  The legendary Lipizzaner Stallions and their trainers, wearing traditional outfits and side reins, will perform a showcase of European culture and heritage, which when combined with the Arabesque essence of the venue, will give the audience a once in a lifetime experience.

Performed to classical Austrian music, the ‘White Ballet’ will witness elegant, high-strutting, low-bowing paces through several acts based on the movements the horses would naturally do when out topasture, various gaits, changes of steps and jumps, but in a beautifully stylised form.

The unique Abu Dhabi performance, ‘All Steps and Movement of the High School’, will see four stallions showcase movements from the Olympic Grand Prix Dressage, from flying changes, to pirouettes and piaffes. This act will be followed by the infamous ‘Pas De Deux’ where two horses perform the same movements in mirror image of one another, creating a beautiful ensemble. The unmissable performance will conclude with the ‘School Quadrille’ a very athletic dance with eight Lipizzaner horses precisely choreographed to historic dance music from the time of the Viennese Congress.
