The globally-renowned corporate race series, Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, is returning to Dubai for its fourth year on Wednesday, 13th February with half of all places already sold. 25% of the entry fee for the team-building relay, which sees 1,000 runners from teams of corporate and financial services firms compete to be the ‘fastest firm in the city’ at the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), will be donated to charity.
Designed to promote team building, a healthy work-life balance and bonding between colleagues, each team will once again battle it out for the number-one spot, making their way around the one-mile route by the iconic DIFC Gate Building. For the first time, participants will run along Gate Avenue, the new retail and fashion experience which also connects all buildings within DIFC.
Headline sponsor Bloomberg, the global business and financial information and news leader, has supported the event since it began in the heart of London’s business district in 2007. In 2019 the global series will grow to 12 cities worldwide, with inaugural races taking place in Paris and Mumbai, and will see a variety of companies in each city network, bond and collaborate outside their working environment.
Each team is comprised of ten runners and the team with the fastest cumulative time for ten one-mile (1.6km) laps will be crowned champions. Dubai’s biggest businesses including HSBC, Barclays, Knight Frank, UBS, J.P. Morgan, and PwC will race their way around DIFC.
Alya Al Zarouni, Executive Vice President – Operations, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, said: “Our partnership with the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has gone from strength to strength and every year we’re amazed by the number of runners that turn out in DIFC as well as their supporters who all flood the area and show great team spirit by cheering on their colleagues. We’re delighted to be involved once again as we continue to transform Dubai into the most active city in the world.”
James Hassett, Managing Director of the event organiser Square Mile Sport, said: “We’ve had a fantastic 2018 series with a record number of teams taking part across the world. We’re excited to launch the 2019 series in Dubai – the event creates a real buzz in the city and it’s great to see so many companies networking and bonding with their colleagues as they strive for that number one spot.”
This year, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is proud to introduce The Extra Mile – a community-led initiative that addresses a unique social challenge in each city, creating an impact way beyond the finish line and giving runners the opportunity to make a meaningful and actionable difference to public health, education, arts or the environment of their communities, all through using the power of sport. 25% of each team’s entry fee will be donated to the Relay’s long-standing charity partner, Emirates Red Crescent, who will put the funds towards a year-long programme that addresses a cause chosen by the race participants. Runners will also have the opportunity to give back through service hours.
Participants and supportive friends and family will be invited to the popular post-event party with music, food, beverages and entertainment. For further information on the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay or to enter a team please visit the website: www.squaremilerelay.com/dubai.
